Landscapes usually look much better during bad weather than in clear skies and sunshine. In this blog post I will give you four tips on what you should pay attention when photographing.
Tip 1: Get Dressed According to the Weather and Get Out

Strong wind, rain or snow should not stop you from taking pictures. Right clothes protecting you from cataclysms. With wind-resistant and waterproof clothing you can stay longer out without to freeze one’s ass off.
On our trip to Holland, on the way to the hotel I saw very cool windmill. That was our first evening there and I was totally excited. I wanted to photograph this mill absolutely. Unfortunately outside looked like it was the end of the world. We put on our waterproof clothing, I took my tripod and we got out. This is the result, look at this dramatic sky, amazing.

Tip 2: Protect Your Equipment
Modern cameras and lenses are inherently resilient enough. Light rain, low temperatures or snow will not damage your equipment. In case it should heavy rain I always have a plastic bag in backpack. I make a hole in the bag corner and put it over my camera, so that my lens step out the bag. Protect your backpack also. Buy a waterproof backpack or rain protection for it.
At low temperatures you should pay attention to the battery life. Because it’s very quickly empty, best you buy a few spare batteries.
When taking pictures at the beach you should be careful that no sand enters the camera. The sand gets into the mechanical parts of the camera or lens and destroy them. The lens changing should be avoided in the poor weather conditions.

Tip 3: Make Dramatic Pictures
With the clouds all the images look more dramatic, use them as backgrounds to show the contrast. At sunset get the clouds yellow and red colors. If you photograph near water, use mirroring as an eye catcher. Look my first post, I explain there how to make sunset pictures.
In strong wind you can do very interesting pictures of a waves. That brings much dynamics in your pictures.

Tip 4: Photograph Natural Phenomena
The coolest natural phenomena happen in bad weather. For example is a probability to see a rainbow after rain is very large. Another cool motif is rain over the sea, as in the main picture of this post. With little skill and luck you can make very cool pictures of the flashes. But before you go photograph the flashes, read some articles about your safety during the thunderstorm. I hope you’re not going alone with a tripod on the flat field to photograph the flashes. This may end badly.
